Visions of what's to come

A twelvemonth gone, and another to come. Here’s what the B-Corp oracles of Something Familiar have foretold.
Our promise not to sit still
This year was full of learning and change
When things are busy (as they often are) it’s easy to default to delivery, so one of our biggest challenges was making space and time for the whole team to engage with B Corp activities. We’re working on ways to embed B-Corp into the way we work, rather than feeling squeezed round the sides.
We’ve also learned a lot about what the team needs to thrive; people’s needs shift more often than we expected, so we’re learning to adapt. That includes more flexible working as part of our Wellbeing Strategy, keeping conscious of bias in recruitment, and evolving how we support personal and professional development.
We’re proud of our score, but there’s so many things we want to improve for next year. The work is never done – which is entirely the point.
Wellbeing looks different for everyone – one person’s ideal working week looks entirely different to someone else’s. Everyone has a unique offering and perspective that we need to balance with SF’s culture.
A new chapter begins
What the B-Corp oracles have foretold
As we move into our fourth year of being a B Corp, the world is changing at what certainly feels like a faster pace than ever. As part of that, the B Corp standards we’ve followed over the last few years have evolved to better reflect the challenges across the globe. In essence, they’re much more rigorous – the good people over at B Lab are fantastic at keeping everything transparent, at a high standard, and unrelentingly realistic on what needs to be done to keep people and planet safe.
So, over the next year, we’ll be focusing on how our purpose aligns with the new standards to make sure that it’s specific, positive, and has a meaningful impact. Bringing everyone along the journey with us is as important as it always has been; one of our biggest goals for next year is to encourage the entire team to contribute to delivering on our refined B Corp purpose.
With a few new faces in the team, we’re feeling refreshed and hopeful. We can’t wait to see what we can do with new standards, new people, and new focus.
Thank you for reading about our quest.
